Women’s empowerment has always been recognized as the core of inclusive growth policies of Government of Uttar Pradesh. There are various initiatives and programs which focus on the inclusive development of women in the state. Some of the major initiatives are:
Mission Shakti
Uttar Pradesh governments flagship program which is aimed at promoting the security, dignity and empowerment of women. The scheme was launched in phases which included initiatives such as Mission Shakti Kaksha (classrooms) at all the 59,000 Gram Panchayat Bhawans (Village Panchayat Buildings), formation of one lakh women self-help groups, linking of 1.73 lakh new beneficiaries to the destitute women pension scheme, safe city project at the divisional headquarters and Gautam Buddha Nagar, posting of women police personnel as beat police officers, construction of pink toilets (for women) in 1,286 police stations, special recruitment for women battalions of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) to 2,982 posts, deployment of women sub-inspectors in urban areas, setting up of creches in all police lines and construction of health clubs in women’s colleges.
Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana: With an aim to end inequalities and discrimination, there efforts have been made by the government as well as non-government organizations in the past and present scenarios. In addition to the existing efforts being made by the government, Uttar Pradesh is introduced this conditional cash transfer scheme.
It is an initiative to ensure social security to the girl child along with her development. It also aims to prevent social vices like female feticide and child marriage while focusing on opportunities for them to advance towards higher education, employment and an important status in the society.
Nirbhaya-Ek Pahal Program: The program aims to connect as many as 75,000 women with state banks. They will be able to get loans at cheaper interest rates and avail benefits of state subsidies
Grant scheme for marriage of daughters of poor people
Such parents whose annual income from all sources in urban areas is less than 56, 460/- and Rs. 46,080/- in rural areas and minimum age of bride and groom is 18 and 21 respectively, they are provided with Marriage Grant of Rs. 20,000/- by direct transferring in their bank account.
Complete process right from applying for grant till the final payment, is online under this scheme. Applicant can apply on the web portal http://shadianudan.upsdc.gov.in within the duration as under:- ( 90 days prior and 90 days after the date of marriage)
Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana Uttar Pradesh 2021
- This scheme is a mass marriage scheme for Uttar Pradesh.
- All the economically weaker sections of UP and the families of BPL category can take advantage of this scheme.
- The poor and widowed and divorced women of the society can get full benefits of this scheme.
- Wedding dress and 'bichhiya' (toe ring) etc. will be provided to poor families.
- The marriage will take place in presence of the District Magistrate.
The mass marriage program will be organized by Local Panchayats, Nagar Palikas and Municipal Corporations, Kshetra Panchayats, Zilla Panchayats, Government/Semi-Government Organizations and local NGOs.
